Multi-Trade Exterior Case Study

1009 Knob Hill Road, Burnsville, MN

One property. Multiple crews. Just about every exterior trade we offer. We started on the roof after tree damage, repaired and replaced wood decking, installed a GAF Timberline HDZ charcoal roof system, paved a new asphalt driveway, poured a backyard concrete patio, and finished with a full skid-loader yard renovation and cleanup.

Phase 1 — Roofing

Tree damage, full decking repair, then a GAF Timberline HDZ charcoal roof.

A large tree limb came down on this Burnsville roof, taking out shingles and chewing through the wood decking underneath. Before a single shingle went back on, we tore off the damaged section, cut out rotted and broken sheathing, and laid in new plywood decking — fastened, taped, and inspected. Only then did we install the new GAF Timberline HDZ system in charcoal: synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water shield at the eaves and valleys, fresh pipe boots and flashings, and a clean ridge line top to bottom.

Phase 2 — Yard cleanup & renovation

Skid-loader yard cleanup, regrade, and restoration.

Years of overgrowth, tree debris, and uneven grade had taken over the property. We brought in the skid-loader, cleared brush and old material, re-shaped the grade to pitch water away from the foundation, and prepped the yard so the pavement and finish work could go in clean.

  • Brush and debris removal
  • Skid-loader grading and leveling
  • Drainage swales away from the home
  • Edge cleanup along driveway and patio
  • Topsoil placement
  • Ready-for-seed final grade

Walk-through video — yard renovation

We run multiple pieces of equipment and attachments across our jobs and match the right tool to the work in front of us. On this one, we used our Caterpillar skid-loader paired with a Hydra Bucket from CMP Attachments, a Minnesota-built attachment that lets us grade, scoop, and dump in tight spots without constantly swapping tools.

Phase 3 — Driveways & concrete patio

New asphalt driveways front and back, fresh concrete patio.

With the yard regraded and the roof buttoned up, we mobilized for pavement. Both the front driveway and the separate backyard driveway were cracked, settled, and pitched the wrong way in spots — so we removed them down to grade, re-shaped and compacted the base, and laid new asphalt with a proper crown for drainage. While the crew was on site, we also formed and poured a new concrete patio off the back of the house with a texture-mat stamped finish for a decorative, slip-resistant surface.

Phase 4 — Finish work

Black dirt, fresh sod, and clean planting beds.

With the hard work done, we brought in screened black dirt by the trailer-load, spread and shaped it along the new driveways and around the home, then rolled out fresh sod for an instant lawn. Planting beds were re-edged, mulched, and tied back into the new grade so every transition — pavement to lawn, lawn to bed, bed to foundation — looked intentional.
