Roofing & siding storm damage restoration in Moorhead, MN

Adventure Companies helped this Moorhead homeowner resolve hail damage to the roof and vinyl siding. The discontinued Clay siding had no suitable match for a repair, so the claim covered a full roof and siding replacement: new white siding, a Charcoal shingle roof, and new gutter downspouts.

The insurance negotiation

Moorhead hail damage: when vinyl siding repairs don’t have a suitable match.

Following the June 29, 2026 Moorhead hailstorm, this home needed both roofing and siding work. The existing Clay-colored vinyl siding had been discontinued by the manufacturer and did not have a suitable match for a repair. Replacing only damaged sections would have left the homeowner with replacement siding that did not suitably match the existing exterior.

Adventure Companies negotiated with the insurance company based on that lack of a suitable siding match. Rather than proceeding with a patch repair, we explained why a full siding replacement was needed and worked with the insurer to resolve the scope of the claim.

With the whole exterior in scope instead of a patch, the homeowner was also able to move off the discontinued Clay to a more modern, lighter color — the crisp white shown in the after photos.

The outcome for this project was coverage under the homeowner’s insurance policy for replacement of all the siding and roofing. That allowed us to restore the exterior with a consistent white siding finish and a new architectural shingle roof, instead of leaving mismatched areas.

This is the outcome of this individual claim, not a guarantee for another home. Coverage and matching decisions depend on the specific policy, damage, and insurer’s review; applicable deductibles and policy terms still apply.

Material research & identification

Nearly 20 years of identifying materials before a repair is proposed.

Adventure Companies has close to 20 years of experience researching building materials and the identification testing methods used to evaluate them. Before we ask an insurer for anything, we establish what is actually installed on the home — manufacturer, product line, profile, color, and whether that material is still being produced.

That identification work is what decides the path. When testing shows a physical sample can be matched, a repair is the right answer and we scope it that way. When it shows no suitable match exists, we take the evidence back to the insurance company and negotiate for a suitable repair or full replacement instead of accepting a patch.

On this home, that process showed the discontinued Clay vinyl siding could not be suitably matched for a repair — the basis for the insurance-covered roof and siding replacement shown in the after photos.

What identification covers

  • Product identification

Manufacturer, line, profile, and color of the siding and roofing actually on the home.

  • Production status

Whether the material is still made, discontinued, or only available in a different profile.

  • Match testing

Comparing physical samples against current catalog and stock options for color, profile, and fade.

  • Repair-versus-replace finding

A documented conclusion on whether a suitable repair is possible or further negotiation is needed.

Before photos

Hail damage to the roof and discontinued Clay siding.

These are the before photos of the same home. The roof took direct hail impact — granules knocked loose and the asphalt substrate exposed at the strike points — and the exterior was clad in a Clay-colored vinyl siding the manufacturer had discontinued. Alongside the matching problem, the homeowner wanted a more modern, lighter color for the finished exterior.

  • Front elevation before the project — the existing Clay-colored vinyl siding the manufacturer had discontinued. The homeowner also wanted a more modern, lighter exterior color than the Clay on the home.
  • Roof before the replacement — a hail strike knocked the granules loose from the shingle, exposing the dark asphalt substrate underneath.
  • Roof before the replacement — damage documented along the shingle seam during the inspection that supported the roofing and siding claim.
After photos

Moorhead roof and siding replacement: after photos.

  • Front elevation — new white siding and Charcoal shingles. The hail-damaged garage doors shown here are still awaiting replacement.
  • Garage and entry — white Mastic Carvedwood Double 4" dutch lap siding gives the exterior a consistent new finish.
  • Rear elevation — the siding replacement extended around the home rather than leaving mismatched repair patches. These after photos show the new siding with some job-site materials still present.
Installed materials

The finished roof and siding system.

  • Mastic Carvedwood Double 4" dutch lap siding

New white vinyl siding replaced the full existing siding scope, providing a suitable, consistent finish around the home.

  • GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Charcoal

The new architectural shingle roof pairs a dark Charcoal color with the bright white exterior.

  • New gutter downspouts

New downspouts are part of the exterior restoration alongside the completed roofing and siding work.

The remaining repair

Garage doors are getting replaced next.

The garage doors also sustained hail damage and are getting replaced. The doors visible in the after photos are the existing doors — their replacement is still pending, even though the new roofing, siding, and gutter downspouts are complete.
